We go to the 5-8 and don’t even try a Juicy Lucy because we’re a wing blog.

THE STORY
The 5-8 Club. It’s more than a contender for the best Juicy Lucy in town. And besides, we know at least one way the 5-8 beats Matt’s Bar: They have wings. Sorry, Matt’s. Love ya, but where are the crispy crispies?
So, how are the wings? First the good: The sauce. It isn’t typical. In fact, it’s almost kinda smokey. But it’s good. And good on you for trying something with a bit more depth, 5-8.
Was it better thank Franks and Butter? You won’t catch us going there, but it was tasty. The wings were also fresh, very hot, and served without delay in a classic green-checkerbox-papered basket.
So what was missing? Texture. Even the best and most interesting sauce can’t make up for soft skin. (See our Chatterbox review for another case of good sauce that unfortunately lives on soggy wings.) The meat itself also lacked some quality, and our wings came in inconsistent sizes, perhaps leading to some being more fully fried than others.
Still, follow up your wings with a fantastic cheeseburger and a cold tap beer, and you’ll be sitting happy on South Cedar.

Notes: I defer to the old adage, “Cheeseburgers are not wings, still, cheeseburgers are good, and so are wings, and this is not an old adage.” |

Notes: I thought the sauce on these wings was really interesting and tasty but couldn’t make up for what was lacking in crisipiness and meat quality. Better than some but not the best. |
